Following up on the first Belle & Sebastian curated Late Night Tales album which was released in 2006 this new installment, released on March 26th, includes songs chosen by Chris, Stuart, Bob, Mick and Sarah. Their choices range from the 60s pop of the Lovin’ Spoonful and the Wonder Who? to the melancholy minimalism of the band’s good friends Remember Remember, with a selection of groovy jazz, female folk, prog-rock breakbeats and dubbed-out post-punk along the way. In keeping with Late Night Tales tradition the album also includes a cover version by the compilers: a swinging version of the Primitive’s jangle pop classic “Crash”.
Belle & Sebastian Late Night Tales Volume 2 is available now from the
band’s site, iTunes or the Late Night Tales website.
To celebrate the release Chris Geddes was sent on a short tour of UK record stores to spin some favourites from the compilation and sign some copies.
The first of these in-store events took place the day before the release at Monorail, Glasgow on Sunday 25th March between 4 and 9pm. Following this Chris dropped in at Manchester’s Piccadilly Records on the 30th March and finally headed to Rough Trade East in London on the 1st April. Chris also joined the Late Night Tales residents to play some records at the Late Night Tales B&S launch party on 1st April at the Big Chill Bar, Dray Walk (off Brick Lane), London, E1 6QL.
