Alongside Mercury winners Franz Ferdinand and other artists including David Bowie and Muse, Belle & Sebastian and Snow Patrol have reached the initial list of 70 albums nominated for the prize by the appointed panel of experts. This year’s panel includes Jim Jarmusch, Norah Jones, 3D from Massive Attack, Robert Smith, Jack Black, Josh Homme, Perry Farrell and others. This is the second time Belle & Sebastian have received a nomination for the award, in 2002 ‘Storytelling’ was put forward by Dan the Automator.
The list will be narrowed to 10 finalists in September, with the prize to be awarded during a concert at the Wiltern in Los Angeles on November 10th. Last year Damien Rice’s album ‘O’, pipped The Streets, Cat Power and Interpol to the award which is now in its forth year.
